End Procrastination and 2x Your Productivity
Success and Beyond: Letter of Progression #4
Jan 29, 2024

I’ll be real here for a second. I procrastinated on writing Letter of Progression #2.

It was supposed to be out a day before it was out, and that’s ‘cause I was straight up dreading the process of finding a good topic and getting the piece done without eating up my workout time.

That dread, that resistance. That’s the main cause of 99% of procrastination issues.

And if you can fix that (thank god I did… for the most part), you’ll be zipping through your work like you’re the Flash…

Or you will be if you also put yourself into a flow state afterward.

So here’s my 5-step Protocol to peak productivity… without all the fancy methods like setting goals, schedules, systems, etc.

Because you’ve probably seen that stuff a million times already.

We’ll be focusing on the things you’ve probably seen less of: the right mindset and exactly how to make your work magnetic.

So, here we go.

But just before we begin, I wanna let you know that I’m trying a new newsletter style today, with specific bullet-pointed steps and stuff.

That’s because this protocol is directly taken from a long-form 𝕏 post I made earlier today.

Why? Because I’m planning on posting a new long-form packed with a heck-ton of value (just like this letter) on 𝕏. Every. Single. Weekday.

And this makes it easier for me to do that.

So stay tuned for that.

And if this is the first letter you’re reading from me, feel free to check out the previous 3 at kishore.beehiiv.com, because those are Newsletter Exclusive.

And now, let’s get into the protocol.

Step 1 → Framing Your Mindset

Let me ask you a question.

If you enjoyed your work to the extent that you couldn't help but not do it, would you ever struggle with procrastination?

Clearly not.

This means we must focus on making our work magnetic to be productive.

How enjoyable your work is depends on how you perceive it, as well as the emotions that the idea of it brings up.

The goal of this protocol is to:

  • Remove your mental resistance

  • Introduce flow state exciters

  • Make work rewarding & fun

  • Boost your productivity

Make your work magnetic, so you can't wait to do it every day.

Step 2 → Detoxifying Negative Emotions

Most people struggle with productivity because the idea of work brings up emotional resistance to some degree.

This resistance keeps them from doing the work, as it makes them prefer the comfort of inaction.

Eliminating this resistance is simple.

Whenever you think of doing the work (or start doing the work), notice any and all feelings of discomfort (fear, angst, disapproval, etc.).

Then, notice who is aware of these feelings, while offering no resistance to the feelings themselves.

You'll realize that you aren't the one feeling emotions, but the awareness of it.

This will instantly dissolve the resistance.

Detoxify all negative emotions and resistances that come up when you start working.

Step 3 → The Flow State Ritual

Now that we've removed the resistance, we must focus on getting into a flow state.

Getting into a flow state has the following benefits:

  • Makes time go slower (or faster)

  • Makes the task stimulating

  • Boosts work efficiency

  • Results in sharp focus

  • Promotes enjoyment

  • & much more

To make this a habit, we must start our bouts of work with a fixed ritual.

This can be anything, like:

  • Drinking a cup of coffee

  • Repeating a mantra

  • Doing 15 pushups

  • All 3 combined

  • Anything else

What matters is keeping the ritual fixed, so that your brain eventually learns to put you into the right mindset after performing it.

Come up with a ritual to get into the flow state.

Step 4 → Dissolving Discomfort (...again)

We will face some more discomfort on our journey to ultimate flow Zen productivity.

But that's okay. We're masters at this now.

Before getting into the zone, most people face what I like to call "the storm before the calm" (see what I did there).

This wave of discomfort is temporary, and it's almost like a phase of initiation.

Only the strongest can reap the benefits of flow.

Let the discomfort pass and get locked in.

Allow another wave of discomfort to pass before getting into the flow state.

Step 5 → Enjoy the Flow

We've done it!

In the zone now, you're free to use the infinite benefits of peak productivity to your advantage.

Work feels great, time moves faster/slower, and all your worries disappear for good.

But unfortunately, this stuff doesn't last forever.

Most bouts of flow last for no longer than 90 minutes, so use that time well.

Enjoy the flow state and get your work done while you can.

Conclusion

Some people say flow states have a limit of 4h/day, but I think it can go on for much longer.

...if you learn to be more aware 24/7 and dissolve incessant thinking.

Apart from just increasing the cap for daily flow, awareness of consciousness has a lot more benefits:

  • Automatic dissolution of negative emotions

  • Life becomes more fun & vibrant

  • Increased confidence

  • You feel more at ease

  • Days go by slower

  • & much more

So if you wanna learn about how I cultivated 24/7 awareness in my daily life, feel free to shoot me a DM on 𝕏 @thekishorek.

That’s gonna be it for this letter. See you on the next one.

Kishore out!
